The Alliance to End Homelessness, made up of 16 Ottawa-area housing organizations, has written to Council with a request to purchase hotels as accommodation for people experiencing homelessness.

People who are homeless and precariously housed are at much greater risk to contract COVID-19 because they do not have access to homes where they can physically distance.
The Federal government is actively working with the Province and Municipalities to enable maximum flexibility for funding to achieve the most effective way to respond to this crisis.
We urge the City to take advantage of the current funding to purchase hotels which will both:
Provide self-contained spaces for people to physically distance now and
Accrue building assets that can later be converted into permanent supportive and affordable housing stock after this crisis is over.
