Update on COVID-19

Dear Friends,

Many of you have contacted me because you are concerned about the cases of COVID-19 (the Coronavirus) in our City and around the globe.

We are very fortunate in Ottawa. The Ottawa Public Health (OPH) team, led by Dr. Vera Etches, is well prepared and has entered activated operations with our emergency preparedness team. They are keeping me and my Council colleagues, as well as the public, well-informed as the situation develops.

I encourage you to check the Ottawa Public Health webpage for valuable updates.

I will also post their information on my Facebook page. Another good place to see updates is on Twitter: @cmckenney for me and @ottawahealth for the official news.

As you probably know, COVID-19 is best dealt with by regular and vigorous handwashing; avoiding touching your face; and staying healthy through diet and exercise.

The City and Province will be operating a screening centre for anyone showing symptoms of COVID-19. It will be opening today at Brewer Arena in Old Ottawa South.

Friends, together we have overcome many challenges from floods to tornados to extreme weather. We have the medical expertise with OPH and a strong community to deal with this.

I will continue to keep you apprised of evolving developments via Public Health.

Warm regards,

Catherine McKenney
City Councillor, Somerset Ward
